Guinness Nigeria’s revenue decline 4% amid low beer sales, impact of new excise duty

Guinness Nigeria Plc said on Thursday that net sales for the third quarter and nine-months to the end of March declined by 4% respectively. The company recorded N33.6bn in net sales in the third quarter and N101.4bn in nine months.

Nigerian Breweries posts further profit decline in Q1 as new excise duty rate increase bites

Nigerian Breweries Plc, on Wednesday reported a net profit decline of 21.3% for the first quarter of 2019, impacted by the new excise duty rate increase that came into effect in June. Net earnings fell to N8bn from N10.2bn earned in the same period in 2018.

Excise duty rate increased by 48.2% from the same period in the previous year thus shaving-off N8.1bn from sales revenue as compared to N5.5bn. Total Net Revenue grew by 3.3% to N82.3bn from N82.9bn in 2018.

Heineken sees increased beer volumes in Q1, with growth across all regions

Heineken N.V said on Wednesday that beer volumes in the first quarter grew 4.4% to 52.7 million hectoliters, with growth seen across all regions.

The company said that brand Heineken® saw 8.9% growth with double digit boost coming from Brazil, South Africa, Russia, China, the UK, Nigeria, Mexico, Romania and Germany.

Former Barcelona captain Puyol wraps up his Nigeria Tour amid fanfare

The three-day UEFA Championship tour which brought former Barcelona defender Carles Puyol to Nigeria came to an end on Thursday, 18th with a lush party at the Cubana, Lagos.

The event attracted celebrities who came out to honour Puyol, the Spanish football icon and former captain of the Barcelona Football Club, who had been in Nigeria since the 16th for the coveted UEFA Champions League Tour presented by Heineken.

Golden Guinea dispels rumours of commencement of full operation

Golden Guinea Breweries Plc on Tuesday issued a statement to dispel rumours it has resumed full operation.

In a statement released to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), the Umuahia, Abia State-based brewer said its attention has been drawn to several unauthorized recent online publications on commencement of full operations by the company.

According to a statement by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, he drank his first glass of Golden Guinea beer on Friday after more than 17 years.

Nigerian Breweries seeks N15bn short-term funding through Commercial Paper Programme

Nigerian Breweries Plc on Thursday announced the issuance of a N15bn Commercial Paper (CP), part of the company’s N100 billion commercial paper programme to support its short-term funding.

The company is offering 90-day and 182-day Commercial papers to investors with a view to raising short-term funds for its operations. The 90-day CPs carry effective and discount yields of 11.590 per cent and 11.2680 per cent respectively while the 182-day CPs carry 14.430 per cent and 13.4614 per cent respectively.

Two arraigned for stealing 93 cartons of beer

The police on Thursday arraigned two men before an Ikeja, Lagos Chief Magistrate court for stealing 93 cartons of beer valued at N180,000.

The two, Ebuka, 24, and Olalekan, 25 were charged with two counts of conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, ASP Benson told the court that the defendants committed the crime on 29th March at 4:00PM in Mushin, Lagos.

Champion Breweries honours distributors, trade partners at Distributor’s Award

Champion Breweries Plc recently held its 2018 Distributors Award ceremony in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where dozens of distributors in different categories were rewarded with various gift prizes, including tricycles, fans, among others.

Nigerian Breweries cleared of environmental degradation in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Environmental Protection Agency (KEPA) has expressed satisfaction with Nigerian Breweries Plc Kaduna plant’s safety standards after an inspection of the plant.

Southern indigenes of Kaduna State under the aegis of Arewa Youth Movement for Good Governance (AYMGG) had complained to the State Government and other relevant authorities to come to their aid and save them from the discharge of harmful toxic wastes into the environment by the brewing company.
