FIIRO develops technology to commercially extract Thaumatin, a natural sweetener

The Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO), Oshodi, Lagos, said it has developed a technology that can aid in the commercial extraction and optimization of high-grade Thaumatin, a low-calorie sweetener and flavor modifier.

The Director-General of FIIRO, Gloria Elemo, made this known at the International Conference on Alternative Sweeteners which held in Lagos recently,themed: “Harnessing of the Economic Potential of Thaumatin (Thaumatococcus danielli) in Africa”.

Nigerian Breweries Plc on Thursday announced two new Non-Executive directors to its Board of Directors.

The brewing company notified the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) of the change to the composition of its Board with the appointment of Mr Oluseyi Bickersteth and Mrs Adeyinka O. Aroyewun as Non-Executive Directors.

Star Lager to host 2018 ‘One Lagos Fiesta’

Star Lager beer, the flagship beer brand of Nigerian Breweries Plc, has revealed plans to round up the year in conjunction with the Lagos State Government at its Yuletide revue, One Lagos Fiesta, which is set to hold from 24th December to the early hours of 1st January, 2019.

Court orders Nigerian Breweries to include retirement policy in employee handbook

The National Industrial Court of Nigeria has asked Nigerian Breweries Plc to include its early retirement policy in its staff Handbook.

In his ruling, Justice Ogbuanya ordered the firm to specify the pre-qualification, notice period and severance package in order to avoid litigation of the policy.

FG, UNITAR, Guinness renew partnership to reduce accidents, deaths

The Federal Government, yesterday, renewed the three-year partnership agreement with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, UNITAR and Diageo, parent company of Guinness Nigeria, aimed at reducing deaths and injuries through accidents in Nigeria.

The agreement was signed on behalf of Nigeria by the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, while Mr. Baker Magunda, Managing Director of Guinness Nigeria and Mr. Nikil Seth, Executive Director, UNITAR, signed for the various organizations.

NB says it complies with all legitimate demands of government agencies, the latest in its dispute with NLRC

Nigerian Breweries Plc has said it has no intention to deprive the government of its revenue and thus complies with all legitimate demands of government agencies.

The statement is the latest development in the ongoing dispute between the brewer and the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC). The NLRC on 12th and 13th November had shut down the Lagos and Abuja offices of Nigerian Breweries over alleged disputed promotional fees.

Federal Government urged to suspend new excise duty rate on alcohol, tobacco – Senate

The Senate on Tuesday sought the assistance of the Federal Government to halt the implementation of a new excise duty rate on alcohol and tobacco that came into effect in June until all relevant stakeholders are adequately consulted.

The Upper legislative chamber said a pause would give all stakeholders in the beverage and tobacco industries an opportunity to agree on a consensus rate and implementation approach.
