Multinational firms band together to tackle plastic waste in Sub-Saharan Africa

A group of multinational firms with operations in Africa have come together to launch the Africa Plastics Recycling Alliance in a bid to reduce the problem of plastic waste across the continent.

The companies – Diageo, Unilever, The Coca Cola Company, Nestlé and Promasidor unveiled the alliance at the CEO Africa Forum in Kigali, Rwanda.

Unilever agrees to buy GSK Indian Consumer Nutrition Business, including Horlicks

Unilever announced on Monday it has agreed to buy GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nutrition business in India, including hot malted drink Horlicks.

The deal is expected to cost Unilever €3.3bn ($3.8bn) and will be paid through shares of its Indian unit Hindustan Unilever as well as cash of no more than €639m.

Lipton unveils campaign to empower widows

Lipton Yellow Label Tea, a product from the stable of Unilever Plc, has launched #LiptonReasonsToSmile to empower widows in the country.

The company said the initiative was aimed at supporting over 1,000 Nigerian widows with care packs and giving them seed funds to start their businesses.

The Brand Manager, Lipton, Damilola Dania, said the campaign expected to be executed in states across Nigeria, will also give other customers the opportunity to get involved by buying at least a pack of Lipton between May 1 and June 16.

Lipton reaches out to Muslims during Ramadan in new Campaign

Lipton tea, a breakfast staple in most households in Nigeria and a product of Unilever Nigeria Plc is encouraging consumers to take action in line with the spirit of Ramadan through the just launched Ramadan campaign for the iconic brand.

Enumerating on the reason for the campaign, the Category Manager Tea and Spreads, Vivian Ihaza, said that the Ramadan period, which is very important for Muslim consumers across Nigeria is not only a time of reflection and prayers but also a period to reach out to someone in need.
