Bob Geldof, Irish musician, activist takes minority stake in Blue Skies

Eight-Miles (8 Miles), a private equity firm with interest in Agriculture and technology and founded by Bob Geldof, the Irish singer known for his social activism and anti-hunger efforts in Africa, announced on Tuesday it had taken a minority stake in Blue Skies, an ethical fruit juice business with operations in Ghana, Egypt, South Africa and with sights set on expanding to Nigeria.

NAFDAC declares war on fruit juice importers, retailers; raids shops in Kaduna, Onitsha

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Friday moved against importers and retailers of fruit juices in what the agency called a “mop-up” exercise of foreign banned juices in the country.

In Kaduna State, where the exercise was in full-swing, the agency’s Coordinator for the state, Mr. Natim Mullah-Dadi, said that the exercise was as a result of Federal Government import prohibition list with emphasis on super and central markets in the state.

Egypt raises tariffs on imports including fruit Juices, Ice cream

Egyptian Government has begun the process of implementing higher tariffs on 320 commodities including fruit juices and ice cream with the aim to reduce imports and boost local production, the Finance Ministry said.

The Government of President Abdel Fattah al-sisi passed a decree to increase tariffs with the objective of creating the necessary climate to attract investment into the country and give a strong boost toward increasing productivity, as well as cutting imports.
