Ecobank Nigeria hits milestone with removal of two million PET bottles from the environment

Ecobank Nigeria has announced the successful removal of two million plastic bottles from the streets and drains of Lagos State. The Pan African bank which launched the campaign in May had set a target of removing four million PET bottles from the environment as part of its environmental sustainability campaign. The bank rolled out the initiative in May telling Lagos residents to turn in their used plastic bottles in exchange for cash at designated locations across the state.

Ecobank to pay cash for Used PET Bottles

In marking its sustainability week this year, Ecobank Nigeria has asked residents of Lagos State to bring used plastic materials, soft drink and water bottles amongst others to its Corporate head office in Victoria Island, Lagos, in exchange for cash.

According to the bank, the objective is to remove non-biodegradable materials from the environment towards a healthy and safe living.

The bank stated that its target was to remove four million used PET bottles from the streets and drains of Lagos through this initiative.

Delta State Teacher wins 2017 Edition of Maltina Teacher of the Year Awards

A teacher with Mastercare International School Asaba, Delta State, Mr. Felix Udochukwu Ariguzo, has emerged the 2017 winner of Maltina Teacher of the Year Award held in Lagos on Thursday.

For beating out other contestants, Ariguzo was awarded ₦1 Million as well as ₦500,000 he received as Delta State Champion. In addition, he will receive ₦1 million every year for five years, a training programme abroad and a block of six classrooms built in his school.

NAFDAC raids counterfeiter’s lair in Lagos, Abuja; impounds wines and spirits worth millions

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Friday raided a shop at the popular Oke-Arin market, Balogun, Lagos State and arrested a trader who allegedly manufactures and bottles counterfeit wines and spirits.

The agency said that they acted on a tip-off about some individuals who deal on counterfeit wines and spirits of popular brands.

The enforcement team of NAFDAC said they discovered labeling materials, corks, funnel, filters and empty bottles of registered liquor brands in a shop on Isa Williams Street, Oke-Arin Market, Balogun.

Fire breaks out at Nigerian Breweries headquarters in Iganmu, Lagos

An early morning fire on Christmas Day has engulfed the headquarters of Nigerian Breweries Plc in the Iganmu area of Lagos.

The Lagos State fire service is said to have arrived at the scene to contain the inferno.

According to officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the fire started around 5:30AM on Sunday.

Customs to seal alcoholic beverage firms owing government

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) warned on Tuesday that it would begin sealing alcoholic beverage firms found operating without paying government revenue and bonds.

The agency’s Zone ‘A’ Coordinator, Assistant Comptroller-General, Eporwei Edike gave the warning during his visit to some companies producing alcohol in Ikorodu area of Lagos.

Fire guts Ranona Nigeria Ltd beverage factory in Isolo, Lagos

Fire broke out on Friday at the Isolo area Lagos factory of Ranona Nigeria Limited, makers of FreshYo yoghurt, Blue Boat Fruit Milk, among other beverage products.

The fire which allegedly started from the mixing unit of the plant had already consumed about five sections of the factory before fire fighters arrived at the scene.

Workers at the factory, which is located at Afprint Way, along the busy Oshodi/Apapa Express way, Isolo, said they ran from the premises when they noticed thick smoke gushing from a section of the factory.

Guinness Nigeria sues NAFDAC over N1bn fine

Guinness Nigeria Plc has filed a suit against the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) at the Igbosere High Court in Lagos, over the N1bn fine imposed on it by the agency.

The company urged the court to bar NAFDAC from publicly discussing, analyzing or providing any information to the media, whether print, electronic or in any other manner,” to suggest that the decision to sanction it was lawful.
