Nigerian Breweries releases statement on lawsuit filed against it by the Nigerian Copyright Commission

Nigerian Breweries Plc on Monday released a statement on a pending legal case brought against it by the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC). The company stated that it was defending the action filed against it and its former Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mr Johan A. Doyer, by the NCC. The case is pending at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

According to the company, the case is not new as it was instituted in October, 2017 by one Mr Paul Allen Oche, who is laying claims to the copyright supposedly contained in a book he “wrote” and which book has, as part of its title the Amstel Malta trademark which is well known as one of the brands in the company’s portfolio.

Nigerian Breweries names new Managing Director, others to the Board

Nigerian Breweries Plc (“NB”), announced on Monday the appointment of Mr. Jordi Borrut Bel as its new and substantive Managing Director, replacing Mr. Johan A. Doyer who has been the Managing Director on an interim capacity since 16th June 2017. The appointment is effective 22nd January 2018.

Nigerian Breweries – Financial Market Forum Wrap-Up

Nigerian Breweries Plc, the nation’s largest brewer held its ‘2017 Financial Market Forum’ on 14th September 2017 at the company’s Iganmu-Lagos facility, where the new CEO Johan Doyer and Finance Director, Mark Rutten held a briefing of the company’s business and gave analysts a tour of the Iganmu plant.

The company posted a 15% revenue growth in the first-half of 2017, driven partly by earlier price increases. Beer volumes in the period declined mid-single digit. The brewer said it has implemented further marginal price increases in the N220 to N230 price range for select brands at the start of the third quarter of 2017 with the aim boosting margins amidst local input cost pressures.

Nigerian Breweries appoints Johan Doyer as Interim Managing Director

Nigerian Breweries Plc (“NB”) Board of Directors have moved quickly to appoint a new Managing Director to replace the departing Mr. Nicolaas Vervelde, who resigned last week having completed his tenure at the firm. His last day on the job would be on the 16th of June 2017.

In a statement released by the company on Tuesday, it said that the appointment of Mr. Johan Doyer will take effect on 16th June 2017 and would be on an interim basis pending the appointment of a substantive Managing Director/CEO for the company.
