The City of New Delhi in India has banned AB InBev from selling its products in the city for three years for allegedly evading paying local excise taxes.
According to the government citation, a three-year investigation by the authorities allegedly found that SABMiller, which was acquired by AB InBev in 2016 used duplicate barcodes on its beer bottles supplied to city retailers that year, which allowed it to pay lower taxes.
Unilever announced on Monday it has agreed to buy GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nutrition business in India, including hot malted drink Horlicks.
The deal is expected to cost Unilever €3.3bn ($3.8bn) and will be paid through shares of its Indian unit Hindustan Unilever as well as cash of no more than €639m.

Diageo Plc is weighing raising its majority stake in Indian spirits maker United Spirits Ltd (USL), according to people familiar with the matter. USL is the maker of McDowell’s No. 1 whiskey, Signature whiskey, Romanov vodka, among other spirit brands.
Diageo is said to be considering an open offer to other shareholders in United Spirits, according to people, who do not want to be identified because the matter is private.

Drinks maker, Diageo Plc has reached an agreement with the Scotch Whiskey Association (SWA) to rename one of its biggest-selling whiskey brands, McDowell’s No. 1 to another name. It has also agreed not to export its Bagpiper brand outside of India.
McDowell’s and Bagpiper are both Indian whiskeys, whose origins are widely known within India. However, the Scotch Whiskey Association (SWA) argued that outside of India, many consumers mistakenly assume they are Scotch Whiskeys because of their name and reference to Scotland.
