NAFDAC, Police intensify fight against producers of adulterated alcoholic drinks; raid markets in Lagos, Aba

The Lagos State Police Command said it has arrested three suspects involved in the production of fake alcoholic drinks in the Apongbon area of Lagos.

The Command’s Spokesperson, DSP. Bala Elkana, said on Sunday in Ikeja, that the suspects were arrested based on a tip-off received by the police.

NAFDAC impounds adulterated alcoholic wines in Edo

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated nearly 90 cartons of fake ‘Fidossi Spunmante’ drinks, a brand of alcoholic wine, without registration number in Edo State.

Mrs Itua Esther, Assistant Director of NAFDAC in Edo disclosed this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin City on Saturday.

She said said the seizure followed a raid on five shops at Upper Sakponba, Mission Road, Benin on Friday.

Police arrest owner of adulterated wine, spirits and juice factory in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday raided the site of where unwholesome wines, fruit juices and spirits are produced in the Oke Odo area of Lagos.

The police said they arrested a 48-year old man, Uju Daniel Ughanzi, who they identified as the owner of the illegal factory.

Discovered in the one-storey uncompleted building, which also serves as Mr Ughanzi’s family residence were assortment of fake wines, fruit juices and empty bottles.

Trader arrested for producing adulterated alcohol brands

The Lagos State Police Command announced the arrest of a trader, Emmanuel Nwodo, for allegedly distributing adulterated alcoholic beverages in the Iju area of the state.

Nwodo, who is 38, was reportedly apprehended with chemicals suspected to be ethanol and other materials used in the production of fake drinks.

Police raid illegal brewery in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday raided an illegal brewery in the Egbe-Afa, Igbobo area of Ikorodu, where counterfeit malt drinks and stout are produced.

A team of investigators from the Lagos State Police Command led by the Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal arrested five suspects.

NAFDAC nabs eight involved in production of fake drinks

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Saturday raided the Ogbaru Relief Market, near Onitsha and arrested eight persons including a nursing mother who were involved in the production and sale of adulterated alcoholic beverages.

The agency shut three shops in the market and seized counterfeit drinks and production materials worth millions of naira.

NAFDAC raids counterfeiter’s lair in Lagos, Abuja; impounds wines and spirits worth millions

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Friday raided a shop at the popular Oke-Arin market, Balogun, Lagos State and arrested a trader who allegedly manufactures and bottles counterfeit wines and spirits.

The agency said that they acted on a tip-off about some individuals who deal on counterfeit wines and spirits of popular brands.

The enforcement team of NAFDAC said they discovered labeling materials, corks, funnel, filters and empty bottles of registered liquor brands in a shop on Isa Williams Street, Oke-Arin Market, Balogun.

NAFDAC warns public to be alert to adulterated drinks in the market

The National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised alarm over the proliferation of unwholesome alcohol drinks in the market, especially dry gin.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Jos, Dr. Abubakar Jimoh, Director, Special Duties for NAFDAC, said the agency had been advising consumers to be wary of counterfeit and unregistered drinks in the market.
