Coke Employees in South Africa go on Strike

Employees of the South African unit of Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA) have gone on a protected strike for the past two weeks as they press home their unconditional demands for a 7% pay increase and better working conditions.

The industrial action which began on 12 October affects the company’s operations in the Eastern Cape, Free State, Northern Cape, Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces.

The workers on strike are former employees of Coca Cola Fortune, which together with other entities, merged to form Coca Cola Beverages South Africa in May 2016.

Coca-Cola to spend $90m in Kenya to broaden product offerings

The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC) plans to invest up to $90-million in Kenya over the three years through 2018 to increase its product offerings in the region’s biggest economy, the soft drinks maker said on Tuesday.

Coca-Cola, which is the leader in the Kenyan soda market with brands like Coke and Fanta, has committed to invest $17-billion in Africa as a whole since 2014, double what was invested in the continent a decade before, the company said.

AB InBev to sell stake in Zambia’s National Breweries to Zimbabwe’s Delta Corp

Delta Corporation, Zimbabwe’s largest brewer and a unit of AB InBev said on Thursday that it has reached an agreement to acquire a controlling interest in National Breweries of Zambia.

In a released statement, Delta said that equity is being acquired from Heinrich’s Syndicate, also a subsidiary of AB InBev.

“The equity is being acquired from Heinrich’s Syndicate, a subsidiary of AB InBev. The transaction is subject to various regulatory approvals. The impact of this transaction is currently being determined but is not material for Delta,” said Alex Makamure, Delta’s Company Secretary.

AB InBev completes divestment of interest in Coca-Cola Beverages Africa

Anheuser-Busch InBev announced on Wednesday that it had completed the sale of its 54.5% equity stake in Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA), the continents largest Coke bottler to The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC) for $3.15bn after customary adjustments, as announced on December 21, 2016.

CCBA was formed in 2016 through the merger of SABMiller’s African non-alcoholic beverage interest with The Coca-Cola Company’s South African operations and the Gutsche Family Investments, the owners of South African-based Coca-Cola Sabco.

CCBA buys Kenya’s third largest Coke bottler

Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA), the South African-based Coke bottler announced on Thursday it has acquired Equator Bottlers Limited, Kenya’s third largest Coke bottler for an undisclosed amount.

According to media reports, Kenya’s regulators (Competition Authority of Kenya) gave their blessing to the deal last Friday.

Big Beer, Wine and Soft Drinks Firms Vie for Majority Stake in CCBA

Big multinational beer, wine and soft drinks firms are competing for the 57% majority stake in Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA).

First reported by Reuters and Bloomberg in April, Heineken, Coca-Cola Hellenic and Castel Group are among companies that have bid for a majority stake in CCBA, according to people familiar with the matter.

Coca-Cola reaches agreement with South Africa over CCBA

Coca-Cola said on Thursday that it had reached an agreement with the South African government on a package of conditions addressing public interest considerations in connection with the proposed acquisition of AB InBev’s 54.5% stake in Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA).

The soft drinks giant reaffirmed its commitment to honour all merger conditions agreed with South African regulators when CCBA opened for business in 2016. Coke also agreed to ensure that the majority shareholder of CCBA will honour all merger conditions agreed at the creation of the company.

Coca-Cola Africa names Roger Gauntlett to head its South African unit

Coca-Cola African unit has appointed Roger Gauntlett to become its new General Manager (GM) for its South African operations, replacing Luigi Panaino, who left the company after 20 years of Coca-Cola system experience.

Mr. Gauntlett is a veteran of the Coca-Cola system, having joined the company in Johannesburg in 1999. He will be responsible for managing the firm’s relationship with its bottling partner, Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA), ensuring alignment as well as sustainable and profitable growth for the beverage giant’s business in the country.

Coca-Cola Icecek withdraws bid for CCBA partnership

Coca-Cola Icecek (CCI) said on Tuesday it was withdrawing its interest in bidding for SABMiller’s former stake in Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA).

The Turkey-based firm, which is the fifth largest Coke bottler in the world, with operations in 10 Middle Eastern countries and employs 10,000 people, said that it has completed a “comprehensive evaluation into buying the 54% stake from The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC).
