CBN mulls ban on forex for dairy imports to boost local production

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is said to have concluded plans to restrict foreign exchange availability for dairy imports in a bid to boost local production and investment in ranches.

Sources privy to discussions held between the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele and milk producers said that he told them that foreign exchange would soon be restricted for dairy imports at both the official exchange and parallel markets if they do not invest in ranches, a move he said would reduce the ongoing farmers and herders conflict in the country.

Nigerian cows produce less milk than cows in other countries – Minister of Agriculture

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has said that cows bred in Nigeria top the list of worst milk producing cows in the world.

The minister made the assertion at the 79th anniversary of Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos on Thursday.

He said that an average Nigerian cow produces less than one litre of milk per day compared to its counterparts in other countries where they produce as much as 100 litres per day.

FG applauds FC WAMCO for pioneering local milk sourcing, development

The Federal Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), Chief Audu Ogbeh, has commended FrieslandCampina WAMCO, makers of Peak and Three Crowns milk, for laying the groundwork for local milk sourcing and development in the country, and for uplifting the lives of Nigerian dairy farmers.

The Minister made these comments on Monday July 10, while visiting the company’s state-of-the-art local milk collection facilities in Fashola Village and Iseyin town, both in Oyo State. The centres support the company’s Dairy Development Programme (DDP).

FG Partners L&Z Farms To Develop The Dairy Sector

The Nigerian Government and local dairy firm, L&Z Integrated Dairy Farms based in Kano have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at developing the dairy sector and helping to tackle the recurring Fulani herdsmen and farmers clashes in Nigeria.

The MOU signing which took place in Abuja had the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh sign for the Federal Government, while L&Z Integrated Dairy Farm chairman Keith Richards signed for the company.
