VAT increase will hurt businesses, consumers – Guinness Nigeria

Guinness Nigeria Plc has said that the ongoing plans by the Federal Government to raise the Value Added Tax (VAT) rate from 5% to 7.5% would have a negative effect on businesses in the country.

The company made this known when its chairman, Mr. Babatunde Savage spoke at the company’s 2019 Annual General Meeting in Abuja recently. He said that a VAT increase would negatively impact manufacturing firms in the country, increase the cost of doing business and further reduce the disposable income of Nigerians.

Guinness Nigeria Plc has stated its must-dos in the new financial year which began in July to include: winning with a total beverage portfolio, strengthening and accelerating its premium core brands, winning in value and mainstream, innovating at scale to make new leads, building and constantly extending its route to consumer, driving out costs constantly to invest in growth and guaranteeing its plan with the right people and capabilities.

Guinness Nigeria outlines strategy for growth

Guinness Nigeria Plc said it has adopted a strategy to broaden its portfolio base to enable it serve a wider range of consumers both from price and segment point of view as it awaits a full recovery of the economy.

In a wide ranging interview with FEYISAYO POPOOLA of the Punch Newspapers, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Guinness Nigeria Plc, Mr Baker Magunda, said that the economic recovery has been very fragile. He lists some of the challenges manufacturers still face.

Guinness Nigeria announces Board approval of Baker Magunda as new Managing Director

Guinness Nigeria Plc, announced on Thursday that its Board of Directors has approved Mr Baker Magunda as the company’s new Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer with effect from 1st July 2018.

Mr Peter Ndegwa, the company’s former Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer, gave his notice of resignation on 30th June 2018 and the Board accepted his resignation on the same date.

Guinness Nigeria makes transitional change; appoints Magunda as new CEO

Guinness Nigeria announced on Wednesday that CEO Peter Ndegwa will be stepping down to take up a new role within Diageo plc, Guinness Nigeria’s parent company. Baker Magunda, currently Managing Director of Meta Abo Brewery in Ethiopia will take over as the new CEO of Guinness Nigeria, following a period of transition.

Peter has been at Guinness Nigeria for nearly three years and has overseen the recent transformation at the company, including the successful Rights Issue and implementation of the productivity programme, the company said in a statement. Recent Q3 financial performance has shown the improvement that these projects are delivering.
