Diageo and AB InBev near RTD licensing deal in South Africa as Competition Commission stamp their approval

South Africa’s Competition Commission on Friday gave its green light for a partnership deal between AB InBev and Diageo in South Africa.

South African Breweries (SAB), the local unit of Anheuser-Busch InBev will get the franchise rights to manufacture, market and distribute Diageo’s Smirnoff ready-to-drink (RTD) brands in South Africa. The licensing deal includes Smirnoff Storm, Guarana, Spin Cooler, Pine Twist, and Berry Twist but excluding Smirnoff vodka. SAB will also produce Guinness products but excluding Guinness Foreign Extra Stout and Guinness Malta brands, which would still be imported from Ireland.

Cadbury Nigeria posts half-year profit rise, recovering from 2018 loss

Cadbury Nigeria Plc said its net profit rose by 258% to N68.2m in the first six months of 2019, erasing a net loss of N318m it incurred in the same period in 2018.

The Bournvita maker said that the good result was driven by an 11% growth in sales, prudent cost management initiatives which saw cost of sales rise by a marginal 3.88% and a nearly 80% decline in net finance cost.

Revenue rose to N19.5bn from N17.5bn in the previous year.

Coca-Cola Foundation, Water Aid launch N300m Water Project in Enugu

The Coca-Cola Foundation, in partnership with Water Aid Nigeria, has launched an N300m water project in three Local Government Areas (LGA) of Enugu State.

The project is part of an effort to boost access to portable water supply in the state.

The aim of the flagship programme, which is the Replenish Africa Initiative (RAIN), is to provide access to sustainable clean water, sanitation and hygiene services to over 10,000 residents in and around Nsukka, Ezeagu, Uzo-Uwani, Isiuzo, and Enugu South LGAs in the State.
