Nigerian Breweries Plc on Wednesday announced the extension of deadline for submission of entries for the Maltina Teacher of the Year award. The deadline which was initially scheduled to end on 12th July has been extended to 26th July, 2019.
Speaking on Wednesday on the decision to extend the deadline, Nigerian Breweries’ Corporate Affairs Director, Mrs Sade Morgan, said the decision was done in response to calls by teachers and other stakeholders to allow for additional time for more teachers to submit their entries.
She said that teachers should download the application forms from the Maltina website – www.maltina-nigeria.com and submit directly to maltinateacheroftheyear@heineken.com or pick up a form at state Ministry of Education, Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) or Nigerian Breweries offices nationwide or post to P.M.B. 12632, Marina, Lagos.
In its fifth year, Maltina Teacher of the Year Awards is meant to recognize and reward secondary school teachers across the nation for their immense contribution to the education sector and in shaping the lives of pupils and future leaders of the country. It is part of the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust fund, which was established by the company in 1994 to support the development of the education sector in Nigeria, which is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No.4.
The 2019 award winner will receive a total cash prize of N6.5 million and a capacity training abroad, while a block of classrooms will be built at the school where he or she teaches. Morgan added that the first runner-up and the second runner-up for the competition will get a cash prize of N1m and N750, 000 respectively, while state champions will receive a cash reward of N500, 000 each.
