AB InBev has again dominated the Top 25 Beer brand list as the World’s Most Valuable Beer Brands, with Budweiser emerging as the global new King of Beers for the first time.
According to Brand Finance, the authors of the report, Budweiser surpassed its lighter cousin, Bud Light to emerge as the top brand, with 6% brand value growth to $7.5bn, thanks in part to the immense success of its global sponsorship campaign of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The campaign which is said to have reached 3.2bn football fans around the world sped up growth in new markets including South Africa, Colombia, China and Australia. Despite the brand value gains, the report authors note that Budweiser and its cousin Bud Light, which declined in brand value by 5% to the number two spot with $7bn brand value, have seen a slowdown in consumption in the U.S as consumer tastes have evolved for healthier alcohol free alternatives.
However, the Belgian brewer’s portfolio still took 11 spots out of the top 25 beer brands, down from 13 in the previous year.
Chinese beer brand Snow is the new comer on the list, having broken into the Top 10 of the 25 brands in this year’s Brand Finance ranking with a 52% rise in value to $3.7bn.
Snow is the world’s bestselling beer with 101.2 million hectoliters sold per year, more than double Budweiser volume sales. The brand which up until recently has been confined to the Chinese market, have in the last year struck partnership with Dutch brewing giant Heineken and American beer company, Molsen Coors to grow beyond China.
Tsingtao, another Chinese brand saw its value jump 49% to $1.7bn and moved up nine places on Brand Finance list of Top 25 Beer brands. As well as having a strong following in its home market, the brand is said to be China’s most exported beer brand with presence in over 100 countries.
