Nigerians spent N208bn on Alcohol in 2016, says NBS

Nigerians spent a total of N208bn on alcohol in 2016, according to the latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

A breakdown of the nation’s consumption pattern shows that the South-South zone consumed the most alcohol in the country, with N74.4bn spent on alcohol. This covers the states of Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross Rivers.

AFBTE posts 22.3% income growth in 2018

The Association of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Employers (AFBTE) said that its full year income in 2018 grew by 22.3% to N102m from N83.4m in 2017.

The trade union organization which represents the interest of companies in the food, beverage and tobacco industries said that the sector was beset by influx of imported finished products, which negatively impacted the patronage of locally made goods and thus affected the organisation’s profit margin.
