The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has increased its responsible alcohol drinking campaign with the launch of the third phase of the crusade by its Beer Sectoral Group (BSG), which is made up of leading brewing companies in Nigeria such as Nigerian Breweries Plc, Guinness Nigeria Plc and International Breweries Plc operating in 17 locations in various parts of the country.

According to MAN, the main targets of the campaign are commercial vehicle drivers, motorcycle operators, private car owners/drivers, as well as young people with access to operating vehicles and road users.

The theme of the new campaign tagged ‘Drive Alcohol-Free’ is aimed at improving road safety as well as boosting the nation’s economy.

A statement from the Beer Sectoral Group (BSG) said the campaign was part of the group’s strategy to continue to enlighten consumers, especially commercial vehicle drivers, on the need for responsible consumption of alcohol.

BSG said it would continue to discharge its responsibilities to its many stakeholders and support the activities of the Federal Road Safety Corps with whom it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote safety on Nigerian roads.

The new campaign is designed to improve safety on our roads through reducing the incidents of drink-driving and the chances of alcohol-related road crashes,” said BSG Secretary, Dr. Lanre Onigbogi.

The group also noted that the campaign was part of the efforts to force a behavioural change among consumers who had yet to imbibe the attitude.

The theme of the campaign was given as ‘Think of Safety, think of your family’, with a rider ‘Say no to drinking and driving’.”
