The hospitality industry have called on the Kwara State Government to lift the ban on the sales, production and consumption of alcohol in the state.
They said the enforcement of such a law would have far reaching effect on the nation’s economy and the hospitality industry.
They spoke with newsmen in separate interviews on Friday in Lagos.
The National Union of Food Beverage and Tobacco Employees (NUFBTE) has criticised the Federal Government and threatened to go on a labour strike over the planned increase on the excise duty rates for alcoholic beverages and tobacco.
While speaking at a meeting by the organised labour, President of NUFBTE, Lateef Oyelekan, said that more than 20,000 workers are presently employed in the alcoholic and tobacco sector and may lose their jobs if the amendment takes effect.
AB InBev has agreed to transfer seven of its beer brands in Argentina to Compania Cervecerias Unidas S.A. (CCU) as part of a post-merger condition for its takeover of SABMiller in 2016, Argentina’ production ministry announced on Wednesday.
As part of the proposed divestment by AB InBev which received the blessing of the Argentine National Competition Defense Commission, the brewer will transfer seven of its brands, notably – Isenbeck, Dioasa, Norte, Iguana and Baltica beer brands, as well as the licenses to Warsteiner and Grolsch brands to CCU, a Chilean brewer with operations in Argentina.
Beer giant AB InBev has said it will serve Nigerians with various beer brands at affordable prices.
The Marketing Manager of AB InBev, Mr. Arne Bruse disclosed this at a conference held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lagos. He said that consumers of beer will be able to buy some of the company’s beer brands at about ₦100 to ₦150.
