FG Panel reports on Fanta, Sprite investigation this week – Health Minister

The investigative panel set up by the Federal Government to look into the controversy surrounding certain acids in Fanta and Sprite, products of the Nigerian Bottling Company (“NBC”) will report its findings this week.

The Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, revealed this to the media in Abuja.

“By next week (this week) we will get the update. Just be patient with us because we are looking at other issues beyond Benzoic acid. We expect that by next week (this week), the panel will make public its findings,” he said.

The report findings which will be made public this week follows the directive given by the Health ministry that all bottling companies in Nigeria should begin inserting advisory warnings on all products to safeguard the health of citizens and consumers.

The Federal Government’s directive was in response to a recent Lagos High Court ruling, which ruled in favour of the claimant, Fijabi Adebo Holdings Limited, awarding him N2m against the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), a case which also had the Nigerian Bottling Company as a party.
