Vendor files petition with AG against Nigerian Breweries

Nigerian Breweries Plc (NB) said on Tuesday that one of its former petroleum vendors has filed a petition with the Attorney General of the Federation against some members of its management.

In a released statement signed by NB’s Corporate Affairs Adviser, Kufre Ekanem, the company said that TMDK oil Traders, a vendor who had been under a three year contract to supply petroleum products to the company had filed a petition with the Attorney General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice.

The petition led to a summons by the Nigerian Police Force (Force Headquarters, Abuja) to some senior level managers of NB, including the wife of the company’s Managing Director, Nicolaas Vervelde to report to their office for questioning.

According to the statement, TMDK oil Traders was one of NB’s fuel suppliers under a three-year contract which expired in September 2016.

TMDK was said to have participated in a new tender process for supply of petroleum products to NB. While the process was ongoing, TMDK wrote a letter to NB complaining of some bias against it in the process. NB’s Internal Audit Department investigated the complaint and found no irregularities in the way the process was being handled. Other claims relating to extra costs made by TMDK are currently being looked into by NB.

While all of this was going on, some senior level managers of NB were summoned to report to the Nigerian Police Force headquarters, Abuja based on a petition filed by the lawyers of TMDK with the Attorney General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice.

The petition appears to be targeted at persons connected to NB, the statement said, including the wife of its Managing Director, Nicolaas Vervelde.

Nigerian Breweries said it is fully co-operating with the investigating authorities while seeking to protect and uphold the company’s reputation as a good corporate citizen.
