American coffee giant, Starbucks opened its first store in Johannesburg, South Africa recently with throngs of coffee lovers lining up to get a taste of the international brand’s coffee.
In 2015, Starbucks signed a licensing agreement with Taste Holdings Ltd of South Africa, which would give it the rights to operate Starbucks coffee shops in Sub-Saharan Africa for 25 years. Taste Holdings already has a similar licensing deal with Domino’s Pizza in South Africa since 2014.
The newly opened full-format store has Starbuck’s entire range of foods and beverages, and its ethically-sourced Arabica coffee.
Starbucks operates in about 70 countries with over 23,000 retail stores.
