A 43-years old Lagos business man, Julian Madu, on Friday, pleaded guilty at a Federal High Court in Lagos, to a three-count charge bordering on the production and sale of unregistered Moet wine.

The Prosecutor, Mr Shamaku Umar, asked the court to remand the accused in custody until a date is fixed for review of facts.

The trial judge, Justice Abdulazeez Anka, agreed and ordered for the accused be remanded in prison custody.

He adjourned the case to Jan. 26th for a review of facts.

The prosecutor, Mr. Umar, told the court that the accused was arrested at his residence at 18, Offin Road, Oke-Arin, Lagos, on March 16, 2015, where he was caught engaging in the production of the product.

According to Mr. Umar, the accused also sold the counterfeit products to consumers. He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 5, 6 and 6(1) (a) of the Food Drugs and Related products (registration) Act Cap F33 Laws of the Federation, 2004.

The accused was charged to court by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). He was earlier granted administrative bail after his arrest, but failed to appear in court on Jan.18th, the last adjourned date slated for his arraignment.

The prosecutor had then sought for an abridgement of time from the court for an arraignment of the accused, when he was re-arrested.
