Cadbury Nigeria Plc, makers of Bournvita among other beverage products, on Friday, 16 October 2015, commissioned a new manufacturing plant at its Agidingbi, Ikeja site in Lagos.

The new ultra-modern production plant was commissioned by the Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode.

The new factory would enable the company raise its capacity by nearly 37 percent to meet rising demand for its food-drink and Bournvita.

In a statement by the company’s Head, Corporate and Government Affairs in West Africa for Cadbury Nigeria, Mr. Bala Yesufu, the new plant is said to have resulted into direct foreign investment of over N10bn, is fully automated and will replace an older facility which could not support the necessary expansion plans.

The statement said the plant would also generate greater efficiency, enhance the quality of their products and be more competitive in the market.

“Mondelez International embarked on the construction of the plant as a mark of confidence in the Nigerian Economy, within the company’s site at Agidingbi, Ikeja Lagos, which resulted into Direct Foreign Investment of over N10 billion,” it said.

“We embark on a major new phase in our manufacturing capability as this state-of-the-art plant which represents the single largest investment by Mondelez International in Africa in the last two years is in line with our desire to keep pace with the latest technology in our business space and the need to demonstrate our leadership position in our sub-sector of the Nigerian economy.”

Recently, the Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN) had re-endorsed Cadbury Bournvita, as food-drink rich in energy and essential micro-nutrients. It is the first food-drink to be endorsed by the Society, which is Nigeria’s foremost expert on nutrition.

Cadbury Nigeria Plc is a subsidiary of Mondelez International, Inc, a global beverage and confectionery behemoth with footprints in 165 countries and 2014 revenue of more than $30bn.
