AB InBev could make an offer to acquire SABMiller as early as this week, with reports over the weekend saying a preliminary offer of $106bn was made.
Reports say that the two beer giants have begun ‘friendly talks.’
Earlier this month, AB InBev and SABMiller confirmed that a merger was being discussed, with AB InBev intending to make an offer to acquire SABMiller, though no offer has yet being received.
AB InBev has until Oct. 14 to make an offer, or say it does not intend to make an offer, according to the City code on Takeovers and Mergers in London.
AB InBev is the largest brewer in the world by volume and has Budweiser, Becks and Stella Artois, among others in its stable.
SABMiller is the second largest brewer in the world with Peroni, Grolsch, Trophy and Hero, among others in its stable.
The combined company would control 30 percent of global beer volumes (approximately 400 brands). It would also own 18 of the world’s 40 most popular beer brands (by volume).
