Court bars La Casera from terminating worker’s employment over unionization
The Lagos Division of the National Industrial Court has granted an ex-parte injunction restraining the management of La Casera Soft drinks or anyone acting on their behalf from terminating the employment of its workers for wanting to join the National Union of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Employees (NUFBTE).
The court, which gave the order on 15th September, 2015, said that the soft drink company, either acting by itself or its agents cannot terminate the employment of its staff pending the hearing of the substantive suite scheduled for 19th October, 2015.
What this means is that the termination notice posted by the company on it’s gates on 11th September 2015 was null and void. The company had on that date sacked no fewer than 1,500 workers consisting of 700 regular workers and 800 casuals.
