AB InBev to sell stake in Zambia’s National Breweries to Zimbabwe’s Delta Corp

Delta Corporation, Zimbabwe’s largest brewer and a unit of AB InBev said on Thursday that it has reached an agreement to acquire a controlling interest in National Breweries of Zambia.

In a released statement, Delta said that equity is being acquired from Heinrich’s Syndicate, also a subsidiary of AB InBev.

“The equity is being acquired from Heinrich’s Syndicate, a subsidiary of AB InBev. The transaction is subject to various regulatory approvals. The impact of this transaction is currently being determined but is not material for Delta,” said Alex Makamure, Delta’s Company Secretary.

Zimbabwe mulls restricting alcohol sales to curb abuse

The Government of Zimbabwe is considering restricting the sale of alcohol to certain days, hours and to pregnant women.

The Sunday Mail, a Zimbabwe newspaper reported that the policy proposes to bar the sale of alcohol during the week, regulate the number of hours to sell the products and provide guidelines on the consumption of alcohol during special events like parties and weddings on the basis of the venue in which they are held.

South Africa’s Nampak posts 11% revenue growth despite currency losses

South Africa-based Nampak, maker of glass bottles, metal cans and a range of cardboard boxes for the beverage industry among others, said on Monday that full-year results ending 30th September 2016 was positive, with revenue rising 11% to R19.1bn ($1.4bn) and group trading profit up 4% to R1.9bn ($139m).

The performance was due to the turnaround at Glass, good trading in Nigeria and Zimbabwe, volume increases from new customers and benefits from operational improvements that resulted in improved efficiencies and cost savings. The group-wide comprehensive performance improvement plan is delivering good results,” said Nampak CEO, André de Ruyter.
