Nampak to sell Nigerian carton business

Nampak Limited, the South Africa-based packaging company with footprints in 11 African countries said it has reached an agreement with AR Packaging Group AB, a Swedish cigarette pack maker to sell Nampak Cartons Nigeria, a producer of high quality folding carton products for the tobacco, food and consumer goods segments.

Nampak year-end result weighed by weak consumer demand, tough operating environment

Nampak Limited, South Africa-based beverage can, bottle and paper producer said that its full year results ending on 30th September were negatively impacted by economic headwinds, leading to decreased consumer spending characterized by trading down, product substitution and downsizing to smaller sizes.

The firm which is Africa’s largest manufacturer of cans, bottles, plastic and paper packaging for the food and beverage industry with operations in several African countries including Nigeria and the UK said that revenue for the 2016/2017 financial year fell 2% to R18.8bn ($1.37bn) with Operating profit before capital profit on sale and leaseback of properties growing 14% to R961m ($70m). However, net profit declined 76% to R356m ($26m), caused by the one-off comparison of R1.36bn ($99m) capital profit on sale and leaseback in 2016.

Nampak’s profit surge 41% in half-year despite flat sales

Nampak Limited, the South African beverage can and bottle manufacturer hailed its first-half results which ended on 31 March 2017, as profit surged 41% to R853m (approx. $65m).

“We have delivered improved results, net profit up 41%, despite a tough trading environment,” said Andre de Ruyter, Nampak CEO.

“A major achievement is we were able to improve our operating efficiencies, and managed costs very closely,” he said on Tuesday.

South Africa’s Nampak posts 11% revenue growth despite currency losses

South Africa-based Nampak, maker of glass bottles, metal cans and a range of cardboard boxes for the beverage industry among others, said on Monday that full-year results ending 30th September 2016 was positive, with revenue rising 11% to R19.1bn ($1.4bn) and group trading profit up 4% to R1.9bn ($139m).

The performance was due to the turnaround at Glass, good trading in Nigeria and Zimbabwe, volume increases from new customers and benefits from operational improvements that resulted in improved efficiencies and cost savings. The group-wide comprehensive performance improvement plan is delivering good results,” said Nampak CEO, André de Ruyter.

South Africa’s Nampak plans bottle factory in Nigeria, Ethiopia

Nampak, a South African glass maker of beverage cans and bottles plans to open glass bottle factories in Nigeria and Ethiopia at a cost of $155 million. The company said it is part of a strategy to generate half of its profits outside of its home market in five years.

Nampak has been expanding outside of its home market due to weaker consumer demand.

Nampak to build glass bottle factory in Nigeria

Nampak Limited, a South African glass maker for the beverage industry has agreed with partners to build glass bottle manufacturing plants in two of Africa’s most populous countries, Nigeria and Ethiopia.

The company said that it wants to take advantage of growing demand for packaged consumer goods and bottled drinks in Nigeria and Ethiopia.
