Pernod Ricard Q1 sales boosted by international brands, growth in China

Pernod Ricard, the world’s no 2 spirits company by sales reported a 2% revenue growth in the first quarter ended 30 September. The spirits maker said that sales rose to €2.29bn ($2.69bn), up from €2.25bn in the previous year.

The company said sales received a boost from its international brands, which grew 8% in the period and includes names like Absolut vodka, Jameson Irish Whisky, Ballantine’s and Malibu. The firm notes that its wines also had a strong quarter, posting 8% growth.

French spirits group Pernod Ricard on Thursday reported a 13% lift in profit for the full-year ended June 2017. The company said that profit rose to €1.4bn ($1.65bn) on the back of a €9bn sales growth.

The maker of Jameson Irish Whiskey and Absolut vodka said that the good performance was fueled by strong growth in the U.S., an improvement in China, tight cost control and by innovation, which it describes as new products or variations of existing brands, like Absolut Lime vodka or Jameson Black Barrel.

French spirit maker Pernod Ricard on Thursday reported a 1% sales growth in Q1 2016/2017 fiscal year to €2.248bn, from €2.223bn recorded a year earlier.

The maker of Chivas Regal Scotch Whisky, Malibu rum, among others said that growth was driven by strong demand for its Jameson Irish Whisky in the United States. According to the American Distilled Spirits Council, Irish whiskey was the fastest-growing spirits category in the U.S. last year, climbing 16% or almost twice the pace of bourbon.

French spirits maker, Pernod Ricard said on Thursday that revenue for the full-year ending 30 June 2016 rose 1% to €8.7bn ($9.6bn), up from €8.6bn in the previous year.

The maker of Jameson Irish Whisky, Absolut Vodka and Chivas Regal Scotch Whisky, among others said that revenue growth was largely driven by 4% growth acceleration in the USA and a 1% lift in Spain.
