Rite Foods holds maiden Beverage Award for Distributors, Trade Partners

Rite Foods Limited, a new player in the Food and Beverage sector with such brands as Bigi Cola, Bigi Orange, Fearless Energy drinks, among others held its very first distributors and trade partners award on 26 April 2018 in Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos.

The forum, themed the 1st National Consumer Forum for Beverage, was a platform for the company to appreciate its loyal customers for their patronage over the last 10 years.

SON convenes stakeholder’s meeting to review standards for beverages

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has stressed the need for Nigeria to generate her own data on Benzene level in soft drinks in order to arrive at the safe maximum level of benzoic acid or opt for alternative preservatives.

Mr. Osita Aboloma, the Director General of Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), stated this at the Technical Committee meeting on water, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks held in Abuja.

AB InBev buys Energy drinks firm Hiball

Anheuser-Busch InBev on Thursday announced the acquisition of Hiball Inc – an energy drinks company based in San Francisco, California. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hiball was founded in 2005 and makes a line of energy drinks with ingredients such as guarana and ginseng, as well as Alta Palla, a line of sparkling juices.

AB InBev said it plans to deliver Hiball products to new markets, while preserving their culture and brand identities.

Saudi Arabia to place hefty tax on Soft drinks, Energy drinks amidst dwindling oil revenue

Saudi Arabia has announced that it will place a 50% levy on sweetened beverages such as soft drinks and a 100% tax on energy drinks and cigarettes as it looks to boost revenue amid falling oil prices.

The new taxes were first proposed by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) last December, but Saudi Arabia recently signed the agreement.

The country said that the increases are part of an “excise tax on harmful products”. The taxes will come into effect in April 2017.
