Diageo’s EABL to start producing spirits locally as demand in Nigeria, Kenya grows

Kenya-based East African Breweries Limited (EABL), a subsidiary of Diageo Plc has announced plans to start producing spirits in its local market as demand for its products surge in Kenya and Nigeria.

The company which is known for its Tusker Lager said it will invest $13.88 million (approx. 1.4bn Kenyan shillings) to fund a 20,000 bottles per hour spirits line, which will double its production capacity at a plant in the outskirts of Nairobi.

The firm said it will start producing Captain Morgan locally to cut costs and make high-end offerings more widely accessible to both domestic consumers and for export.

East African Breweries to build new brewery in Kenya

East African Breweries Limited (EABL), Kenya’s largest brewer and a subsidiary of Diageo Plc, announced on June 28, 2017 an ambitious plan to build a new state-of-the-art brewery in Kenya.

The plan which was announced by Kenyan’s President, Uhuru Kenyatta at a State House function was joined by Diageo’s chief executive officer, Ivan Menezes and Diageo’s Africa President, John O’Keeffe, among other government dignitaries.

Kenya Breweries eyes the youth with introduction of Smirnoff Ice Electric Ginseng

Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), a Diageo company has introduced Smirnoff Ice Electric Ginseng into the Kenyan market targeting the youths.

KBL said on Monday Smirnoff Ice Electric Ginseng will be marketed to the youth who make up 54% of the total alcohol market volume in the country. It adds that there would be a focus on male consumers who have not been drawn to existing RTDs segment.
