Golden Guinea Breweries set to re-enter beer market

Golden Guinea Breweries has announced it would make its re-entry into the nation’s beer market next month. According to a report by BusinessDay, the Umuahia-based brewer is nearing the completion of a major overhaul and upgrade of its production facilities following a fire outbreak in 2003 that led to the closure of the brewing company.

The company said its new equipment has an installed capacity of 48,000 bottles per hour, which represents 1.15 million bottles per day, twice the installed capacity of the old equipment which produced 24,000 bottles per hour and more than double what its competitors at Nigerian Breweries’ Ama, Enugu plant and International Breweries Onitsha brewery produces.

Activist investor demands split-up of Nestle SA

An activist investor of Nestle SA, Daniel Loeb has urged the food and beverage giant to split-up into three parts to become bolder about restructuring and take advantage of opportunities.

“This is a call for urgency – rather than incrementalism – to capitalize on fleeting opportunities and innovations that competitors will capture if Nestle does not energize itself,” Loeb who runs Third Point Hedge Fund, wrote in a letter to Nestlé’s board.
