Sesan Sobowale, long-serving Director at Guinness Nigeria resigns post

Sesan Sobowale, long-serving director at Guinness Nigeria Plc and its Corporate Relations Director is said to have left the company.

The former face of Guinness Nigeria, who left the company two weeks ago, is said to have mutually agreed to part ways with the brewing company. There has been no word from the beverage giant on his replacement.

Sobowale spent 12 years at Guinness Nigeria, having joined the company in April 2005 as its Corporate Secretary.

Close sources tell Beverage Industry News (NG) (“BIN”) that Sobowale, who is currently away on holidays outside the country, is planning to open a consulting practice upon his return.

Sobowale is said to be a qualified solicitor and an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He was admitted to the bar in December 1990. In addition, he is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in Nigeria and the UK.

Prior to working at Guinness Nigeria, Sobowale had established himself in Corporate Nigeria’s Commercial Law practice, starting out in 1997-2001 as a Senior Advocate at G.M Ibru & Co. From there he served briefly as an Associate at the Law Offices of Udo-Udoma & Bello-Osagie. He would soon move to the Law Union, where he spent 2-years and 7-months (2002 – 2004) as a Senior Associate. From there, he moved up the ranks to MTN Nigeria where he served 9-months (2004 – 2005) as the Telecommunication giant’s Legal & Regulatory Advisor.

At Guinness Nigeria, which he joined in April 2005, he became the company’s Secretary, but will soon double as the firm’s Legal Advisor from 2006 – 2010. From 2011, he was appointed Diageo Nigeria’s Corporate Relations Director, a role he would occupy until his resignation.

In February 2016, Guinness Nigeria hired Rotimi Odusola as the company’s Corporate Secretary, relieving Sobowale of having to double as the company’s Secretary and Corporate Relations Director.
